Revelation is one of the most misunderstood books in the Bible, but its central purpose is not to satisfy curiosity about the future. It exists to pull back the curtain on spiritual reality and show God's people that far more is happening than what their eyes can see. The very word revelation means unveiling, and what is being unveiled is not a timeline or a secret code but a person: Jesus Christ. Everything in the book orbits around Him. He is the beginning, the sustainer, and the end of the entire vision.
There are four traditional ways to read Revelation, each asking a different question: What was? What is? What will be? Holding all three questions together gives the richest and most faithful reading. Five convictions anchor the entire book: Jesus is at the center, God is sovereign over every chapter, reality is bigger than what we can see, the church is called to endure and witness faithfully, and Jesus will finish what He started. These convictions are not just background information. They are the lens through which every vision, symbol, and image in the book should be understood.
Revelation was written to real churches facing real persecution, and what John gives them is not a survival strategy but a vision of Jesus. Right now, Jesus is reigning as ruler over all kings on earth. Right now, He loves His people in their weakness and suffering. Right now, He is building His kingdom through every act of repentance, faithfulness, and worship. The goal of studying Revelation is not to finish it knowing more facts while love for Jesus stays the same. The goal is to see Jesus more clearly, worship Him more deeply, and witness for Him more boldly. The blessing is promised not to the one who can explain the book but to the one who keeps it.
