How to Hear God's Voice

Series: Plugged In: A Practical Guide to Living Connected with God Scripture: Psalm 119:1–8

God has already spoken to His people, and His primary way of doing so is through Scripture. Yet many Christians today, despite having more access to the Bible than any generation in history, rarely open it outside of a Sunday service. The problem is not availability. It is a lack of desire and affection for God's Word. Psalm 119 gives us a rich and practical picture of what it looks like to treasure Scripture, and it challenges us to ask honestly whether we are truly seeking God where He has promised to be found.

God's Word serves three vital purposes in the life of a believer. First, it is a lamp to our feet, giving us enough light for the next faithful step rather than a full view of the road ahead. Second, it protects our joy by functioning as guardrails that keep us from the shame and destruction that sin promises but never delivers. Third, it creates a genuine hunger for God Himself. People who read the Bible simply to finish it eventually stop. People who read it to meet God keep coming back, because every page reveals His heart.

The entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, points to Jesus Christ. He is the Creator, the Passover Lamb, the Great High Priest, the Suffering Servant, and the King of Kings. He is not just another voice in Scripture. He is the eternal Word made flesh, and He still speaks to us through His Word today. Reconnecting with God begins when we stop looking everywhere else and start listening to the voice He has already given us. His Word is not silent, and neither is He.
