He's Alive! (Easter Service 2026)
Series: Easter 2026 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12–22
The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as Christianity's central and most challenging claim - one that sets it apart from every other belief system. As C.S. Lewis observed, Christianity cannot be moderately important; it's either false and meaningless or true and infinitely significant. Yet many believers live as if their faith falls into that impossible middle category of moderate importance.
Paul confronts this tension directly in 1 Corinthians 15 when addressing church members who denied the resurrection of the dead. Rather than dismissing skepticism, Paul invites intellectual engagement by logically working through the consequences if Christ wasn't raised: preaching becomes empty, faith becomes powerless, believers remain trapped in sin, and Christians become the most pitiful people on earth. He acknowledges that believing someone rose from the dead confronts our logic and challenges everything we know about human experience.
However, Paul doesn't leave us in doubt. With the powerful declaration that Christ has in fact been raised from the dead, he points to credible historical evidence including early eyewitness accounts, embarrassing details that wouldn't be invented, and the transformation of cowardly disciples into bold martyrs. The resurrection isn't just an isolated miracle but the first fruits of new life - a promise that what happened to Jesus will happen to all who belong to Him. This creates two categories of people: those in Adam who inherit sin and death, and those in Christ who receive God's righteousness and life through the great exchange the gospel offers.
