Good Friday Service 2026

Series: Easter 2026 Scripture: Isaiah 53:1–12

Isaiah 53 provides a prophetic blueprint for understanding why Good Friday is truly good, written centuries before Jesus walked the earth. The passage reveals Jesus as the suffering servant—not the political messiah people anticipated, but a man of sorrows who would experience the depths of human pain, rejection, and grief. This wasn't merely something that happened to Jesus; it was his intentional choice to become our substitute in the ultimate courtroom of divine justice.

The substitutionary nature of Christ's sacrifice is central to the gospel message. Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities, taking the punishment that should have been ours. This wasn't accidental suffering but God's intentional plan to provide a way for guilty humanity to be reconciled to a holy God. Without this substitution, forgiveness would be impossible, but because of the cross, our guilt can be completely removed and transferred to the innocent lamb who willingly gave his life.

The victory secured through Good Friday extends far beyond mere forgiveness. Isaiah prophesies about resurrection and the great exchange where our guilt is placed on Jesus while his righteousness is credited to us. We don't just receive pardon—we're adopted into God's family and become participants in Christ's reward. This transforms us from condemned criminals into beloved children, clothed in the perfect record of the suffering servant who conquered death itself.
