Generosity is about joyfully participating in God's kingdom work with resources He has entrusted to us, not reluctantly parting with what we consider ours. In 2 Corinthians 9:1-9, Paul outlines three key characteristics of a generous giver that can transform our approach to giving and help us experience the joy God intends. First, a generous giver is dedicated, making giving a priority in their spiritual life just like prayer and Bible reading. When we decide beforehand to be generous, we're prepared when opportunities arise, following God's example of determined generosity. Second, a generous giver is joyful, giving not reluctantly or under compulsion. Using an agricultural analogy, Paul explains that just as a tiny seed grows into a flourishing garden, our giving produces growth in God's kingdom and in our own hearts. Third, a generous giver is blessed, as God provides for His people so they can provide for others. This isn't prosperity gospel teaching but a recognition that God graciously provides for those who give sacrificially. Tithing—giving the first tenth of our income—isn't just about the amount but about our heart posture. It trains us to put God first and brings practical benefits like developing financial discipline, helping us budget more effectively, reducing financial stress, and creating capacity for additional generosity. The ultimate proof of God's generosity is the cross, reminding us that He who gave His own Son will graciously give us all things
