Extravagant Love
Preacher: Josh Stringer Series: The Gospel of Mark Scripture: Mark 14:1–11
This sermon explores Mark 14:1-11, contrasting the extravagant love shown by Mary when she anointed Jesus with expensive perfume against the secret plotting of the religious leaders and Judas's betrayal. We highlight how Jesus called Mary's act 'beautiful' while others condemned it as wasteful. Through this passage, we see that our love for Jesus should stand in stark contrast to the loves of this world, just as His love for us did.
This week, identify something valuable to you—whether it's your time, money, reputation, comfort, or talent—and intentionally offer it to Jesus as an act of worship. Be bold and public about your faith in a way that might feel uncomfortable but honors Christ. Consider how you might share your faith with someone who doesn't know you're a Christian, or how you might serve in a way that costs you something significant. Remember that what others might see as wasteful, Jesus sees as beautiful when done out of love for Him.
