Stay Awake!
Preacher: Josh Stringer Series: The Gospel of Mark Scripture: Mark 13:24–37
Throughout history, people have made countless failed predictions about Christ's return, leading many Christians to either obsess over end-times speculation or completely disengage from the topic. In Mark 13, Jesus provides a better response: stay awake. This passage, part of the 'Olivet Discourse,' uses prophetic foreshadowing to speak about both the temple's destruction in 70 AD and Jesus' future return.Jesus emphasizes that while no one knows the timing of His return, His words are more permanent than heaven and earth itself. Since He accurately predicted the temple's destruction, we can trust His promise to return 'on the clouds with great power and glory.' To stay spiritually awake means continuing the work He's assigned us and obeying His commands, especially the Great Commission. Like Noah building the ark, we're called to build Christ's church one person at a time, living in active anticipation rather than spiritual slumber.
