Who Comes First?

Preacher: Rick Biesiadecki Series: The Gospel of Mark Scripture: Mark 12:13–17

The encounter between Jesus and the religious leaders over paying taxes to Caesar unveils deep truths about authority and identity that remain relevant today. God has established different realms of authority in our lives - government, home, church, and workplace - each requiring proper recognition and respect. The biblical concept of submission involves willingly aligning ourselves under authority out of love and respect, not through harsh control or manipulation.

Just as Caesar's image on the coin indicated ownership, humans bear God's image, giving every person inherent worth and dignity. We belong to God twice - first through creation and second through redemption in Christ. This divine imprint should transform how we view ourselves and others, directing our purpose, correcting our behavior, and affirming our eternal destiny. Understanding our identity in Christ and properly relating to authority structures leads to a life that honors God and respects His established order.

Do you know what it truly means to bear God's image? Your identity is more precious than you think - you belong to God twice: by creation and redemption. Discover how this profound truth transforms everything about who you are and how you live.
