Resurrection Sunday 2025
Preacher: Josh Stringer Series: Passion Weekend 2025 Scripture: Matthew 27:62– 28:14
The resurrection of Jesus Christ represents the most significant event in human history, distinguished by substantial historical evidence and profound implications. Multiple eyewitness accounts, the empty tomb, and the dramatic transformation of the disciples provide compelling support for this supernatural event. Despite attempts by Jewish leaders to prevent and then cover up the resurrection, including posting guards and bribing them to spread false stories, the truth could not be suppressed.
Various alternative explanations have been proposed, such as theories about Jesus not actually dying, disciples stealing the body, or mass hallucination. However, these theories fail to account for crucial facts: Roman soldiers were expert executioners, over 500 people witnessed the risen Jesus, and the disciples were willing to die for their testimony. The rapid spread of Christianity despite intense persecution further validates the authenticity of these events.
This historical truth carries profound implications for daily life, challenging individuals to examine their beliefs and consider how this reality should transform their relationships, work, and purpose. The resurrection isn't merely about making bad people good or good people better - it's about bringing dead people to life, offering hope and new purpose to all who embrace its truth.
