As we near Christmas, it's important to reflect on its true meaning. Matthew 2:1-12 tells the story of the wise men, or Magi, who journeyed from the East to find and worship the newborn King, Jesus. These men were likely astrologers or scholars, not kings, and their journey was both a physical and spiritual quest. Their response to Jesus' birth contrasts sharply with King Herod's hostility and the Jewish leaders' indifference. Herod saw Jesus as a threat to his power, while the religious leaders, despite knowing the prophecies, showed no interest in seeking the Messiah. The Magi, however, exemplified true worship by traveling great distances, bringing costly gifts, and bowing down before Jesus. This Christmas, we are challenged to examine our own responses to Jesus' kingship. Are we hostile, indifferent, or worshipful? The story of the Magi encourages us to offer our best to Jesus, whether it be our time, talents, or resources, and to worship Him with exceeding joy. As we prepare for Christmas, let us not just celebrate a holiday but truly honor the King who came to bring light and life to the world.
