Jesus' Royal & Messy Family Tree

December 1, 2024 Preacher: Josh Stringer Series: Joy to the World (Advent 2024)

Scripture: Matthew 1:1–17

The Advent season invites us to reflect on the profound joy of Jesus' birth and the significance of His genealogy as outlined in Matthew 1. This lineage traces back to David and Abraham, affirming Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel. Despite the messiness and scandalous figures in His ancestry, such as Abraham, David, Tamar, Rahab, and Bathsheba, Jesus' genealogy underscores God's ability to work through imperfect people to achieve His divine purposes. The inclusion of the exile to Babylon further highlights the need for a Savior. As we celebrate this season, we are reminded that Jesus came into our messy lives to offer salvation and new life. Let us embrace this joy and share the message of Jesus' birth with those around us, inviting them to experience the true significance of Christmas.
