At Living Stones, we are committed to faithful exposition of God's Word.

2 Timothy 4:1–2, "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."

The Gospel & Suffering

Suffering comes in all shapes and sizes and leaves no one untouched. Suffering is the great equalizer of the human experience. Perhaps its through suffering that we relate most to the characters in the Bible. You probably can’t imagine what it’s like to be second in command in Egypt, but you know the pain of betrayal of a family member. You don’t know what it’s like to slay a giant and rescue an entire nation. But you know what it means to suffer the consequences of your own sin. You’re not sure you’d ever be a great prophet or missionary, but suffering in a nation that has rejected God or wondering “How long O Lord,” in the midst of chronic weakness is all too familiar. For the next four weeks we’re going to explore suffering through the lives and stories of Joseph, David, Jeremiah, and Paul. Each of these servants of the Lord suffered in a variety of ways. Each of their stories are unique in the biblical narrative. Yet, each of their stories shine a light on the presence and providence of God in the midst of pain and suffering. Our world has always had questions about the location and purpose of God in tribulation. Today is no different. Your friends and family are no different. You are no different. Bring your questions and pain to the Lord in this new series, “The Gospel & Suffering.” This week we’ll see how Joseph suffered because of the actions of others. But we’ll gain insight and encouragement as Joseph’s suffering wasn’t wasted or meaningless. Are there people you know who need encouragement? Invite them to come with you as we begin our new series on suffering.
